Product description

'Fake Chemical State', the second solo album from the singer from Brixton, marks a return to time-tested virtues. Now a proper infusion punk drives the musical engine. The fans will be delighted. Skin herself raves that her new opus is "radiant, quick-vivid, bright awake and dirty." In fact, the artist famous for her animalistic stage performance, who had earned the reputation of a teething predator as a frontwoman of Skunk Anansie already in the nineties, surprisingly recorded a rather introverted and sinistre album with her solo debut "Fleshwounds" released two years ago. Just like a shot animal licking the wounds. The new songs are all the more vital and unbridled: "The new album is full of joie de vivre, I go out of me again, like a little disheveled child who demands all the attention with his waking spirit."

Skin has worked on the album's ten new songs for almost all year 2005 and found that mix of clever mind-flash and deep-seated infidelity, clever puns and igniting beats that makes them so unique. Fake Chemical State is substantially rough and challenging. "This album shows how I am currently turning around in the world", according to the singer, who has established a second domicile in Ibiza. "I started working as a DJ and show myself much more in public. I visit clubs and watch bands." Skin has a pronounced preference for new, fresh bands such as Bloc Party, Clor, White Teeth and the Noisettes. The anarchist temperament of Skin, which she has been demonstrating with every stage performance for ten years and that is powerful enough to put you in a true intoxication with bare music, this temperament can also be felt on the new album. Whether on dance pieces like "Reason" or emotional ballads like "Purple" and "Falling".

An interesting effort this. The album kicks in with 2 rocky songs similar to the skunk and nansie style. Then the album starts to mellow out with the odd up tempo track."Skins" voice comes through with a passionate feel on these more melodic tracks.Personally I would have liked a bit more of the rocky stuff blended in.But thats not to say its not a very good album, cos it is.So yea well worth the buy,oh yea and what a voice!.

This is a superb album, its quite short at 30 something minutes, but this means it has impact and leaves you wanting more... so just just put it on repeat. Not a 'weak' (bad pun) track on it. I just suggest buying the singles as well too get more of her in her ever changing form. But going by the indie feel this has, she sounds comfortable and confident and in top form!!
    Loving this!!!

UPDATE 02/01/11 - Listened to this the other day and it sounds as superb and fresh as the day i got it. :)

if you are a Skunk Anansie fan you will not like this

it is pretty poor, unmemorable songs, riffs etc

much better is Skins first album Fleshwounds

only get this if you have an obsession with Skin, which is quite understandable

    Skin at her best.

Although I liked Fleshwounds, the album was a bit too introspective for my liking. Chemical is much stronger both musically & lyrically with pretty much 100% quality throughout, harking back to some of Skunk's best stuff & a more direct insight into a maturing Skin.

Don't need a reason is particularly impressive in that it takes some simple ideas & works them very cleverly into a repeatedly engaging set of builds.

    One not to miss!!

Also keine Frage, 5 Punkte. Klar, die CD ist zu kurz, klar sie ist nicht stärker als die Skunk Anansie Scheiben, aber auch nicht so weit weg!
