Product description
Product Description
On So-called Chaos Alanis Morissette sounds paradoxically like a woman who has found her own peace with the world. So-called Chaos finds her in a life-affirming, positive place, making music that in a sense sums up her past strengths along with some newfound maturity and perspective. The resulting album is a set of Morissette's most adult and compelling songs, compositions that more than ever explore life's emotional dualities.

It's been a long time in coming, but with So Called Chaos Alanis Morisette has finally produced a worthy follow up to her globe-conquering debut. Calmer and more focused, the songs exude a new, mature woman, firmly in control of her life. "I'm not threatened by every pair of legs you watch go by", she sings with Zen-like serenity on "I Doth Protest Too Much" (as if she'd have said that on Jagged Little Pill). Time mellows--leave the angst to Avril Lavigne.
Over exposure once made her fantastic voice grate, but now it's like welcoming back an old friend--that distinctive little warble, that softness... it's her most valuable asset and the simple, clean production wisely allows it to breathe freely. Most of the songs follow a slow, quiet verse/loud sucker chorus pattern and there's nothing on here that rivals anything from her debut, but everybody (including herself) has accepted that now. The absence of a world-class cosongwriter plays a part, but it's a refreshing change to see no external involvement. Accept Morisette for what she is--a female singer songwriter with an exceptional, original voice, and you won't be disappointed. --Ben Johncock

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2004It's fantastic everyone should go and buy it. And judging the Amazon sales rankings everyone already has. I love this woman she's a bright shining light in a see of musical darkness and cheap plastic pop. This is woman who isn't afraid to bear her soul for all to see, leave herself exposed and by doing as much she inspires me to be more open. The First track, (Eight Easy Steps) is one of the best I've heard from her. It says something, it's lyrical and has this wonderful bouncy rhythm to it, and it just makes you wanna dance. It's a bit short though, only 10 tracks and about 45 minutes long. There's all sorts of added extra's on it though. But who's interested in that, just give me the music. Like some have said it does seem a little overproduced and a tad mainstream, a far stretch from Jagged Little Pill and Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. But her profound and utterly unique lyrics are still there and isn't this what makes her?
Give yourself a soul feed, buy it and love it.
It's a fantastic world when a woman like this can sell bucket loads of records, I feel blessed that God created her.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2004This is easily the best album Alanis Morissette has produced. Catchy, exciting, agressive and full of the trademark self-deprecating/poetic lyrics. Sure, there's only 10 songs -sure, it only goes on for a little over 40 minutes - but when every one of those songs, and every one of those minutes are as good as this - you can't complain. Every song has something about it that you can't help falling in love with - from the catchy Eight Easy Steps & Knees of my Bees, to the amazing sound of Doth I Protest Too Much and the simply ingenious So-Called Choas (which, i.m.o, is the best song she's ever done) with it's fantastic melody and awesome guitars.
Other high-lights include: Excuses, The Grudge, Spineless and (of course) the wonderful Everything.
Overall, this album is a clear-cut case of quality over quantity - it never gets boring, the music is exciting and the lyrics are poetry-in-motion!
So go on and treat yourself to a little bit of chaos - I promise you'll be glad you did.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2016Always been a massive fan of Alanis! Added this one to the collection as I like to have all of her music physically on a genuine CD. Love the tracks, you're one of the best Alanis!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 August 2015For me, I like this album- it is filled with catchy tunes, and Alanis's wonderful vocals. It's not my favourirte album but, I do prefer it to Under Rug Swept, which, although isn't bad feels less inspired with little that jumps out at me. Here, however, there isn't, in my humble opinion, one bad track-7 and 8 being my least favourites on the album- Yet 4. Doth I protest too much, 5.Knees of My Bees, 6. So- called chaos and 9.Spineless stand out as the most enjoyable- with no complaints on the rest. Alanis does sound happier here-, it isn't a dark sounding album- and, if you are a fan , like me, you would want this as part of your collection.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 March 2014I am a big Alanis Morissette fan - she definitely has a sound and style all her own and this latest additional to my music collection did not disappoint.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 December 2012This has been my favourite Alanis album from the first listen. Every track brilliantly individual. Plenty of other detailed reviews out there to quantify my feelings. Powerfully uplifting.

5.0 out of 5 stars
Knees of my knees や Eight Easy Steps や

4.0 out of 5 stars 完成度高
デビュー当時のささくれた?感じは皆無で、よく練られた完成度の高いポップアルバムです。歌詞はまだ全部読みきれてないのでなんとも言えない、、
