The new millennium saw a change in Madonna as, ever at the forefront of popular music trends, she took the earth mother vibes of Ray Of Light and transposed them to the heart of the dancefloor. The end product, Music, is a wondrous mixture of the familiar and the audaciously new--tracks like "Amazing" and "Runaway Lover" would have slotted nicely into the more uptempo sections of Ray Of Light, whereas tracks like "Impressive Instant" and the title track "Music" take Madonna closer to the sound of the dancefloor underground. William Orbit, the man responsible for producing the Ray Of Light album, has a hand in proceedings again, but the majority of tracks are produced by French whizzkid Mirwais, who brings a distinctive Gallic House feel to the proceedings, taking Madonna's voice and putting it through a vocoder until it sounds more like an instrument rather than a vocal line. Whereas Ray Of Light was her album of the joys of motherhood, Music is clearly the sound of a woman in love, for hard evidence look no further than the ballad "I Deserve It", with its opening line "This guy was meant for me", clearly dedicated to the father of her second child, Guy Ritchie. With a well-balanced mix of downtempo and uptempo numbers, all stamped with her innovative style, Music is further proof that Madonna is still way ahead of the pack. --Helen Marquis

    I purchaced this disc as a replacement for one i allready had (copying my collection onto my computer) The original for some reason would not copy and wasn't recognised by my drive at all, it played great on my Sony hifi though.
    The replacement was just the same but even locked the WMA player so nothing worked. As before it worked well on my Sony hifi and my blu-ray player etc. This is the only disc out of over 800 that has reacted this way.

    Others have spoken of the music, I'm writing about the disc itself.

    For those of you who use PCs to play music, you may want to think twice about buying this version, it uses a variant of the copy protection system that can make it unusable on some players / drives.

    Having tried the disc on 4 separate PCs, only 1, (vintage 1994), would play it, same goes for modern DVD and Blu-ray players, of 6 players tested, none would play this disc.

    Whilst the companies have a right to protect their copyright, the discs should at least be playable in modern media players (pcs, dvds, blu-rays).

    As far as dedicated CD audio players go, of 4 tested, 1 failed in the same way as the pcs, dvds and blu-ray players did, the other 3 played it just fine.

    This is one of those rare albums where every single track on it deserves to be released as a single :)
    This is Madonna's best album.... I wonder why I didn't get it earlier.

    This is also one of those albums that the physical copy is better than digital, the booklet is awesome and the cover looks even better when you have the actual CD ;)

    Some songs are really catchy (Music, Impressive Instant, Runaway Lover, Don't Tell Me) and some have great lyrics (I Deserve It, Nobody's Perfect, What It Feels Like For A Girl, Gone) and Amazing and Paradise (Not For Me) are just amazing.

    It's sad that the Canadian version does not include American Pie but that's OK because the album is perfect the way it is.

    I like listening to this album before going to bed, or when I'm on the Nintendo Wii. I have every single song from this album on my iPod but it's even more fun listening to it in a real CD player.

    個人的に彼女の最高傑作として真っ先に思う作品のうちのひとつです。世間的には前作のRay Of Lightを最高傑作に挙げる方も多いかと思いますが、今回はシリアス一辺倒ではなく、遊び心溢れる面がバランス良く共存してます。そして前作では指導されたまま丁寧に発声していてどこか他人行儀だったヴォーカルが今回は自分のものとして一皮剥けた感があり、「らしさ」を強く感じることができ、ベテランとしての余裕が感じられます。（今作からの３枚目のシングル「What it feels like for a girl」は彼女のベストヴォーカルパフォーマンスのひとつとも言える感情のこもった一曲だと思います。）収録曲数に関しても10曲（是非とも彼女本人が望んだ「GONE」で締めくくるUS盤を基本に考えてください）という、もう一声欲しい！と思わせる尺で終わるところが、何度も繰り返してアルバムを聴きたいと思わせてくれます。ソングライティングも進化していて、シンプルな歌詞でありつつも、リスナーに考える余地を与える深みを兼ね備えている点や、類似品の無いエレクトロフォークという新しいマドンナサウンドを確率しています。１０年以上経った今でも、聴く度に新鮮な気持ちになれるエヴァーグリーンな一枚です。当時、２人目の子供ができ結婚をも真剣に考えていた時期に制作された作品とあって、そんな人生の充実感が作品にも強く現れています。
