Rem - Out of Time - CD
Amazon.co.uk
Though R.E.M. titled a later album Monster, this 1991 smash was the true monster, with the little Athens, Georgia, quartet graduating once and for all from its jangling independent-rock roots. The confusion Michael Stipe communicates in the catchy "Losing My Religion" and the dark-and-dreamy "Low" hit the mainstream-rock audience when it was most primed for uneasy angst. (Nirvana's Nevermind was released a few months later.) There are also odd but successful experiments, such as ceding the opening "Radio Song" to rapper KRS-One (with Stipe playing the moaning straight man) and going peppy for the surprisingly non-sarcastic "Shiny Happy People". --Steve Knopper

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2025Cd and packaging in excellent condition. Great album remastered.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2017Out of Time – 25th Anniversary Edition
The Out of Time album is of course a classic and one of the bands best, but the 25th Anniversary Edition is a bit of a disappointment.
The actual 1991 album is as great as it ever was, but the scant bonus material that they have chosen to release alongside it is frankly criminal.
Unless you have already purchased the Complete Rarities (1988-2011) you are going to be missing some of the finest songs the band ever recorded.
Okay, the demo tracks included on the 25th Anniversary are pretty decent, if slim pickings. It’s great being able to hear Michael Stipe on lead vocals for “Near Wild Heaven” and “Texarkana” (letting Mike Mills sing on the final versions though was inspired). The acoustic version of “Radio Song” is a stand out (and is that Bill Berry singing with Stipey?), as is the “Fretless” demo (with completely different lyrics than the finished version). Really though, this deserved to have a much wider collection of songs adding to the 25th Anniversary Edition.
Sadly missing in action here are tracks like: “First We Take Manhattan”, “Organ Song” (both instrumental and vocal versions), “Fretless” (goes without saying), “Mandolin Strum”, “40 Second Song”, “It’s a Free World Baby”, and their amazing renditions of “Summertime”, and “I Walked with a Zombie”. I could go on.
I just hope that the 25th Anniversary of “Automatic for the People” fairs better than this anorexic selection of songs.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2017Absolutely love this on vinyl, beautifully presented three disks in a gatefold sleeve. The heavy duty disks play so well that I have listened at least three times in two days. Also a nice surprise was the fact that you get a free digital download of album and extras. If you love this album already buy it again if you have not heard it yet this is the time to hear it at it's best.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2017This is one of my top three favorite R.E.M. albums and I've had the CD since the week it originally came out. Like a lot of people over the past several years I've been revisiting vinyl (especially releases from the '90's when everything was on CD only) and this is one release from the '90s I had been aiming to get on vinyl. Even if I was buying this for just the original album I would have been very happy with this as the sound quality is very nice but with two additional vinyl records with demos, I had to get this. I am pleasantly surprised first that the demos sound so good and second that I am enjoying these demos (and one outtake) so much.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2015This classic 90s album needs no introduction. After having its wonderful predecessor Out Of Time in this remastered 5.1 surround sound format I had to get this too. The production is superb and what already is a magnificent musical milestone is made even better in really high quality DTS or Dolby 5.1 surround. As you can imagine fro REM great care has gone into the remastering. Do yourself a favour and make sure you've got a decent system to listen to it on.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2020It's REM it's the same album I bought years ago, but it has that extra tingle of the extra album with all the other bits, other takes, instrumentals with no vocal, all those things that at the time would not have been released. I am enjoying listening to the original album again plus all the extras.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2022Excellent to deal with and would highly recommend
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 October 2013Full of great songs excellent melodies, as with most REM albums there is a mixture of moods in the tracks one minute happy then the next a haunting track which stays with you for a few days but that is REM moody but a great band highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Toole Mucke, aber ...

"Shiny happy people" y "Loosing my religion" y me gustó muchísimo. Tuve la oportunidad de comprar el cassette y ahora aproveche este disco que viene en una edición especial. Viene en una caja de cartón con dos discos e incluye un póster. Por el precio es algo que definitivamente no se puede uno perder.
