ID Codes
What is this?
In the end of all postcard read requests (since 25 November 2007) there is a sequence of characters that have encripted information about the sender's PC.
What is it used for?
In the case of abusive and/or criminal messages this sequence can be used to:
a) try to block the sending of new private messages by initiative of PortugalGay.PT
b) to serve as legal proof of origin in the case of legal action against the person who sent the message.
What can I do in the case of an abusive message?
Send all the postcard read request (including the ID CODE) to
abuse@portugalgay.pt presenting the situation. PortugalGay.PT reserves the right to take action depending on the number of complaints and the content of the messages.
What can I do in the case of a legal process?
You must file a complaint next to the competent authorities. We recommend that you are helped by a lawyer in this process.
You must inform the authorities that the given "ID Code" includes ecripted data that can be used to help identify the sender of the message and that they will have to contactar PortugalGay.PT to get the original information (email:
abuse@portugalgay.pt; mail: Apartado 4705; 4012-001 Porto; Portugal; fax: +351-225088562).
How do I get the original data?
The unencripted data is only presented to legal authorities (see previous question).
What is the privacy level of the ID Code?
The data is encripted with a key of more than 250 bits that makes it very hard to decript, but possible given the necessary computation resources and time.
By sending a private message you are aware of this situation.
What type of information is stored in the ID Code?
The IP Address of your PC, a timestamp and aditional information provided by your browser.
Is the ID Code stored by PortugalGay.PT?
No. It is only send with the postcard read message.
