Report: Dia LGBT em Lisboa

This Saturday, 28 June, in Lisbon another LGBT Pride march of the city took place, followed by the Arraial Pride Party.

The march gathered over 1000 participants and was organised by LGBT collective together with non-LGBT entities, a novelty for the city. Organizers had to deal with a mega-event of a workers' union scheduled for the same day which led to last minute changes in the planned route and fewer spectators than in previous years. The march started in the Garden of the Príncipe Real after reading the Manifesto of the LGBT Pride March of Lisbon, followed Rua de S. Pedro de Alcantara and Largo Trinidad Coelho and then made a series of zig-zages throw New Rua da Trindade, Rua Garrett, Rua do Carmo and Rua do Ouro to complete the journey in Prácia do Comércio. In terms of participation it was well-larger than in the previous year and was also marked by a greater variety of attitudes and postures in the march, although the number of organisations with banners has been limited to, practically, the organizers and direct supporters with the honourable exception of the UGT Workers' Union, Bloco de Esquerda Political Party and AJP ONG. Also present were the disco Mister Gay and for the first time in Lisbon the PortoPride sound car to animate further the march and also promote the LGBT Pride March of Porto in the 12th July. At the end of the march, after some indecision on the use of the audio car of the march or the sound system of the Arraial Pride, the Association ILGA Portugal made the sound system available but without access to the stage, the various organizers took the opportunity to present their reasons to be in the march.

Meanwhile the Arraial Pride was starting in the Praça do Comércio in a hot afternoon with a breeze that helped keeping things cooler, this party organised by ILGA Portugal with support from the Lisbon City Hall has more than 20 bars between associations and local LGBT comercial places and even the PortoPride car. In addition to the music, the Arraial Pride was also animated by two blocks of transvestite shows and ended around 4 AM.
